Local Events in Malaga

OCTUBRE PICASSIANO (PICASSIAN OCTOBER) Every October, the Picasso Foundation organizes a series of events to commmerate the birth of the brilliant artist here in Malaga on October 25, 1881. You can attend exhibitions of his work, musical shows, conferences, international symposia and popular celebrations. Picasso's relationship with Málaga is explored from a different angle every year. The foundation awards a grant to an aspiring artist during the celebrations.     DÍA DE LA VICTORIA Día de la Victoria (Victory Day) is celebrated on September 8th every year when the locals commemorate the day when the Reyes Catlicos (Catholic Monarchs) took the city from the Moors in the late-1400s. At midday a famous local celebrity makes a speech followed by a procession from Nuestra Seora de la Victoria Church to the city centre with the presence of Town Hall officials. It is a colourful and exciting occasion and joining in the procession is a great way to get a different view of the city and its people.
